When I get ready for bed at night, I often think how I can’t wait to get up, so I can have my morning smoothie. Smoothie time is my favorite morning ritual. After I place all the ingredients in the blender and turn it on high to let the alchemy unfold, I sing, “Smoothie time, smoothie time, everyone loves smoothie time!” while bopping my head to the rhythm.

My morning smoothie has undergone a few changes over the years. Ten years ago, an Ayurvedic doctor, who I saw for digestive issues, helped me to refine my morning smoothie. She said it shouldn’t combine a lot of different fruits (Ayurveda is big on food combining). Americans, according to Dr. Siri Chand, love to mix every kind of fruit in their smoothies, but just using berries as the fruit is optimal for digestion. Her advice got me hooked on berry smoothies.
